Supportive Award 2018
Supportive Award Nominations
Gaynor is the Chair of the Wrexham Friends of Tenovus Cancer Care fundraising group and a Sing with Us Champion for Wrexham choir.
The amazing thing about Gaynor is her supportive nature to the ladies within the group. Having lost her husband she is very understanding of others in the same situation.
She has set up a creative group for members of the choir to attend if they wish to learn new skills such as flower arranging and craft making. These sessions are thoroughly enjoyed and have brought friendship and focus to the many who attend.
She’s been brilliant at making sure the group work well with the choir and has done a brilliant job of dispersing this attitude to other members.
She’s also a rehearsal volunteer, looking after and welcoming new members so they know where to get a cup of tea or their lyric sheets, and is great at introducing them to other members. She’s an all-round amazingly supportive lady.
Penny volunteers within our Fundraising Team at our office in Cardiff. She helps as a Database and Administration Assistant making sure that supporter and fundraising data is entered, recorded and stored accurately, allowing us to communicate effectively with our supporters.
Penny is a truly lovely lady. She’s a trusted and valued member of the team who has consistently supported us. Penny is a delight to be around, has learnt how to use the database (a role that is not always attractive to everyone!) and is happy doing anything we ask of her. She gets on with the job and is so helpful.
Penny is incredibly supportive and dedicated and has gone on to do a huge variety of work for us, becoming completely invaluable to the Fundraising team. She has carried out huge amounts of data entry, helped out with preparations for events, answered phone calls and has recently started to develop guideline documents for new volunteers.
It’s through helping us with these tasks that we are able to save money and be more efficient, and ultimately support more people affected by cancer.
Marilyn volunteers as a Hospital Representative at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, is part of the Sing with Us choir, and is Chair of the Friends of Tenovus Cancer Care fundraising group in Pontypridd.
Marilyn’s been volunteering at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital for over three years and has built fantastic relationships with the clinical nurse specialists. She’s always coming up with new ideas to expand the service and has used her creativity, knowledge and contacts to make Tenovus Cancer Care a well-known support service within the hospital, increasing the amount of referrals they receive.
Marilyn is very reliable, helpful and compassionate and is a friendly, warm face for patients. She always promotes and encourages people to use the charity’s services, wherever she is. She’s encouraged clinical nurse specialists and even a lady on the bus to join the choir.
Marilyn works tirelessly to support the fundraising group, going above and beyond, holding regular meetings and coming up with new ideas. Nothing is ever a problem; her dedication to volunteering is second to none. She really does make a difference to the work of Tenovus Cancer Care.
