Caerphilly’s Stella star Leona tackles trek for charity!
Our patron, ‘Stella’ TV star and Caerphilly native Leona Vaughan has signed up for the challenge of a lifetime – trekking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu to raise money to help cancer patients and their loved ones.
Before starring in the Sky One series ‘Stella’ and CBBC programme ‘Wolfblood’, Leona volunteered at our shop in Caerphilly, where she’s from.
The ten-day challenge of a lifetime will start on 19 October 2018 and the team of trekkers will be aiming to raise £60,000 for cancer patients and their loved ones.
Fundraisers will be winding their way through breath-taking mountain passes, sacred mountains and jungle trails to reach the fabled ruins of Machu Picchu - one of the most beautiful and enigmatic sites in the world.
Leona said: “I’m so excited to be part of Team Tenovus Cancer Care for Machu Picchu 2018! I’ll be raising money and awareness for the charity with my beautiful grandparents in mind, who sadly lost both of their battles with cancer in 2013 and 2014. I hope to inspire other people to do amazing events like this for charity, and of course raise lots of money for Tenovus Cancer Care!"
Our Challenge Events Manager, Mhairi Jones, is so pleased to have Leona on board. “What Leona is doing for us is really incredible. We’re so grateful to her for taking on this monumental challenge and really can’t thank her enough. People like Leona are a huge inspiration to others dealing with cancer. I have no doubt that she will give hope to other patients and through the money raised from this challenge, she will be helping them to cope.”
For anyone interested in taking on the Machu Picchu challenge, we will be holding a free information evening at the Cardiff Brewery, Crawshay street on Saturday 16th September from 10am-12pm.
