Wales Tackling Cancer event a huge success
On Saturday 25th November, we teamed up with colleagues from the Wales Cancer Partnership, including Macmillan, Cancer Research UK, Cancer Research Wales and the Wales Cancer Research Centre, to host a public engagement event right in the centre of Cardiff: Tackling Cancer Together.
The event showcased the diagnostic, treatment and support services available in Wales, as well as some of the fantastic research funded in Cardiff. Our intention was to show how organisations in Wales are working together to tackle cancer, and we think that the collaborative nature of this event was what made it such a success.
We were so proud to work with 23 different organisations, and hugely grateful to the nearly 100 volunteers, researchers, staff from charitable organisations, and healthcare providers who came together to make this day such a success.
This included representatives from our health and well-being team, our mobile support units, policy and research staff, and Sing with Us choirs. Several of our funded PhD students helped out by running our ‘cell-fie’ station, in which attendees could ‘see what they’re made of’ - looking at their very own cheek cells under a microscope!
Everyone who went along had a great day. One of our volunteer photographers said that the photos he was taking of the workshop were an excellent representation of all the charities harmonising to battle cancer. We thought that this was a lovely way of putting it!
