A monthly donation from your salary is a simple and tax efficient way for you to support our work. Tenovus Cancer Care depends on the regular donations we receive through payroll giving because this reliable income helps us to plan ahead and deliver the vital services people affected by cancer will need in the future.
How Payroll Giving works
Payroll Giving is a tax efficient scheme that allows you to make regular donations to us straight from your salary. Donations are taken out before tax; so for example, a £10 monthly donation will only cost you £8!
The minimum donation for payroll giving is £5 per month and you can change your donation at any time by speaking to your payroll department. If you decide to change your job, your donation will automatically stop when you leave your current employer.
You do not need to notify your employer beforehand, simply fill in our Payroll Giving Online Form and we'll do the rest. You can get more information about how it works on our Payroll Giving FAQs page.
How your monthly donation will help this year...
£5 a month (£60 per year) means one of our experienced nurses is able to man our free and confidential Support Line in the evening, so anyone frightened or worried about cancer always has someone to talk to.
£10 a month (£120 per year) pays for one day of vital cancer research by a PhD student in Wales, helping them to find new ways to prevent it, diagnose it, and treat it.
£15 a month (£180 per year) pays for a monthly bereavement counselling group. So anyone who’s lost someone they love to cancer doesn’t have to go through it alone.

How it works for your employer
Payroll giving schemes are very easy to set up, and require minimal on-going administration. If your organisation doesn’t currently have a scheme in place, we can help you to set one up.
The schemes are administered through Payroll Giving Agencies (PGAs). These agencies are authorised by HMRC to collect donations from employees’ salaries and pass them on to their chosen charities.
When payday comes, your payroll administrator makes a deduction from each participating employee’s gross salary and donates it to us via your chosen PGA. Donations can be changed at any time, and if an employee decides to change their job then their donations to us will stop when they leave.
Promoting your scheme
Promoting a payroll giving scheme is a great way of working towards your organisation’s corporate social responsibility objectives. It’s also an opportunity to celebrate the fantastic generosity of your employees!
Getting your HR department involved is key. It’s a good idea to include information on Payroll Giving as a staff benefit in new starter packs, during the induction process and in staff handbooks.
We can help you spread the word and encourage your staff to sign-up, and we could also come and chat to your staff to help promote your scheme.
If the promotion is a success, your organisation could be eligible for a Payroll Giving Quality Mark and enter the National Payroll Giving Excellence Awards too!
