How singing supports people affected by cancer

Here at Tenovus Cancer Care, we believe that no one should face cancer alone. If you, a friend or relative have been affected by cancer we offer support in a variety of ways

One of the most powerful and unique way we do this is through our Sing with Us choirs

They are much more than just a place to sing. They are a source of strength, comfort, and joy in difficult times. Our choirs are free to join, and everyone is welcome.

You don’t need to have experience of singing or singing in a choir. Each session brings people together to sing, connect, and support one another.

Joining the choir at a low point in my life as helped me tenfold. I’ve made new friends and I come away so much happier.”

Patricia Kane, member of North and South Sing with Us choirs

Studies have shown that singing as part of a group can lower anxiety and improve mental wellbeing. This research also proved that carers benefitted from singing, over the course of the study carers had significant reductions in their levels of anxiety, especially compared to the non-singing group.

Singing alongside others who’ve shares similar experiences creates a deep sense of belonging, emotional release, and empowerment.

I love learning and singing with people from all over Wales. It’s like having a massive group hug. We members of Tenovus Sing with Us stand by each other in good times and bad.”

Our choirs don’t just rehearse – they perform too! From local community events to national platforms, performances raise both awareness of cancer and vital funds to continue our work.

In moments of hardship, these performances shine a light on the power of unity, resilience, and togetherness.
