Meet our Trading and Buying Manager, Savina Barnes

There are a wide variety of roles within Tenovus Cancer Care, from nursing to fundraising, retail to campaigning. Today, we find out more about our Online Trading and Buying Manager, Savina Barnes and why she loves working with us.

“I've been with Tenovus Cancer Care for a little over two years and I really enjoy my role. I'm responsible for developing our online trading platforms which enable us to sell more products to our customers and supporters, such as our Online Shop and E-bay.

The money we raise through these sales come directly back to the charity which means we can help more people affected by cancer.

Without doubt my favourite thing about my role is the people I work with. I work across lots of different departments, and I can truly say that everyone I meet, or I work alongside really works hard and diligently. Everybody is helpful and supportive. Anytime I need to get hold of someone, or ask someone for some help, nothing is ever too much trouble. We have a clear set of values within the charity, which everybody understands, respects and works hard to display. I am lucky to work for a very supportive line manager too, who gives me that great balance of autonomy with guidance.

Personally, the thing I most appreciate working for Tenovus cancer care is the flexible working policy. We have very flexible hours, and we can work outside of the core hours. There is a high element of trust that comes with this, and again that makes you feel very valued.

I currently have quite a lot of family commitments, so having that flexibility with my working hours helps to balance these out while still working my contracted hours and doing my job to the best of my ability.

If you are considering a career in the charity sector or are already working in the charity sector and are interested in applying for a vacancy at Tenovus Cancer Care, my advice would be to go for it. It's very rewarding. It can be challenging like most roles within the charity sector, but you will get the support and training you need. Everyone can make a difference, so what have you got to lose?”
