Tenovus Cancer Care is really proud to launch the All-Wales Cancer Community, the most ambitious Wales-wide patient community to date.
Many people who have been affected by cancer in Wales want to use their experiences to help drive change, to ensure that those in the future face fewer challenges. In our experience, researchers, policy makers and cancer care service providers really want input from those affected by cancer, but don’t know how to go about getting it. The All-Wales Cancer Community is about creating a bridge between those affected by cancer and those who want to learn from them. We want to make sure that everyone who has something to say about cancer care in Wales, has the opportunity to get their voice heard.
When people choose to be part of the community, they will be given regular updates of opportunities to take part in research, help shape political decisions and inform service providers about what they do or don’t want to see. Members can pick and choose which opportunities appeal to them, and which don’t.
Over time we will start to see real life changes brought about by the expertise of the All-Wales Cancer Community. Expertise is the right word, because every person is an expert of their own experiences with cancer, what it made them feel, what support they wish was available and what they think of the information they were given. That sort of expertise is incredibly valuable.
Research, campaigning and policy may seem really intimidating, and although you might have really valuable ideas and input, you might not feel confident enough to step into that world, meaning your ideas go unheard. We are here to say that research, campaigning and policy is a space for EVERYONE, regardless of your age, education or background.
